Car research brand and sister sites name ‘Best Cars to Buy’ for consumers, performance/luxury enthusiasts, and green-car fans

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Jan. 4, 2016The Car Connection, the easiest place to research and shop for cars online, today named the Honda Pilot as its “Best Car to Buy 2016.”  Related sites Motor Authority and Green Car Reports also named their Best Car to Buy Awards, selecting the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, respectively.

The Car Connection also named the winners of its Driver’s Choice awards, as voted by readers.

The Honda Pilot was recognized as this year’s winner by the The Car Connection’s expert editors – and from a competitive field of nominees. Those nominees are new or fully redesigned models that were top achievers in the site’s unique “TCC Rating,” a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle. The TCC Rating rolls up scores given to each vehicle across sub-categories including safety, comfort and utility, fuel economy, performance, and styling.

“It isn’t just the best Pilot yet, it’s the best three-row crossover SUV we know–better than Explorer, Pathfinder, Highlander, and Traverse,” according to Marty Padgett, editorial director of Internet Brands Automotive, parent company of The Car Connection, Motor Authority, and Green Car Reports.

“The Pilot’s axed its hard edges,” added Bengt Halvorson, deputy editor. “It’s once again a smooth, capable family wagon, one that raises the bar for refinement.”

Luxury and performance site Motor Authority, named the Chevrolet Camaro SS as its “Best Performance/Luxury Car to Buy 2016.” Motor Authority editors selected the car from among all luxury/performance vehicles that were either fully redesigned or newly introduced to the U.S. market for the 2016 model year. The winner is selected from those finalists appealing to enthusiasts most strongly with styling, features, acceleration, and handling — as well as value.

“The Camaro SS is one of the most capable, pavement-melting, mind-bending performance cars on the road today,” said Motor Authority senior editor Kirk Bell. “It may have its roots in the pony-car and muscle-car era, but there aren’t many sports cars that can outpoint it on the track or on the road–especially at its price.”

Green Car Reports, a destination for green cars, electric cars, fuel-efficient cars and hybrid cars, named the 2016 Chevrolet Volt as its “Best Green Car to Buy 2016.”  Green Car Reports editors choose the most significant new green car made available to shoppers during the 2016 model year, taking into account new technologies, their practicality, and their impact on the environment.

“The second generation of the Chevy Volt stays true to the original, and radical, concept of a range-extended electric car, but it also fixes most of the shortcomings of the original,” said Green Car Reports senior editor John Voelcker. “If we had a place to plug it in, we’d seriously consider the Volt as our only car to use. It’s really that good.”

For its Driver’s Choice awards, The Car Connection opened up voting to readers in six different categories. Each reader was allowed to cast one vote each day. The winners for those awards included the following:

Best Performance Car: Chevrolet Corvette
Best Green Car: Chevrolet Volt
Best Luxury Car: Tesla Model S
Best Looking Car: Chevrolet Corvette
Best Car On A Budget: Mazda 3
Best Car For Families: Honda Pilot
