The Panhead slots in between the original Knucklehead and the Shovelheads of the late 60s and 70s, and has many fans who love it for its clean simple shapes. We went looking on the internet and picked 9 of our favorite Panhead powered customs.
Harley was slow to switch from IOE to the flathead configuration in 1930, but once they did they stuck with it. The classic finned heads were available on the big twin until 49, on the smaller 45ci bikes until 1956, and it make a sweet retro custom.
From 1966-1985 the Shovelhead motor ruled the big bike scene, in 74ci, and eventually 80ci displacements. Many builders still prefer the Shovel to the later Evo or Twin Cam motors, and here are 9 custom examples I really like.
Since introduced in 2001, the V-Rod has been the fastest, most advanced Harley offering, but its modern water cooled look wasn't popular. In the hands of custom builders these V-Rods are transformed into bikes that cannot be ignored.
